Like our other products, the activated carbon filter Growbox was developed specifically for the Mini Growbox. This is now available in a modified second version with higher filtration performance. What is the benefit of the activated carbon filter Growbox?

When growing indoors, it is highly recommended to use an activated carbon filter. Many novice growers overlook the investment of an activated carbon filter or forget to replace the carbon regularly. Forgoing this can quickly lead to unwanted attention. The growbox activated charcoal filter is the only way to prevent the annoying smell when growing in the Mini-Grow-Box from Bonsanto.

Why is there a strong smell when growing indoors?

The reason for the intense smell in indoor growing is due to terpenes, a chemical compound contained in the plant. Terpenes protect plants from parasites by keeping them away with a strong smell. Other plant species also use this tactic to protect themselves from parasites. In addition to protecting against parasites, terpenes also provide an intense flavor. How intense the terpenes are pronounced and how strong the smell is accordingly depends on various factors such as the climate, the stage of development of the plant and the fertilizer. What is activated carbon?

Aktivkohle besteht zum größten Teil aus dem Stoff Kohlenstoff “C”. Kohlenstoff “C” besteht aus kohlenstoffhaltigen Materialien wie beispielsweise aus Torf, Nussschalen und Holz. Bei dem Prozess der Pyrolyse werden diese kohlenstoffhaltigen Materialien verbrannt, mit dem Ziel den Kohlenstoff in Form von Pflanzenkohle zu erhalten. Durch den darauf folgenden Schritt der Aktivierung wird die Oberfläche der Aktivkohle mit Hilfe von Hitze vergrößert. Dies bedeutet, dass innere Kanäle in der Kohle entstehen, welche die Oberfläche der Aktivkohle deutlich vergrößern. Man sagt, dass circa 1 Gramm Aktivkohle einer Oberfläche von circa 2800m² entspricht.

How does the activated carbon filter Growbox?

An activated carbon filter filters the aromatic components of cannabis from the air. The activated carbon filter Growbox consists of a box filled with activated carbon. The function of a mini activated carbon filter Grow can be compared to the water absorption of a sponge. When air passes through the activated carbon filter, the activated carbon neutralizes the odor of the air by adsorbing the substances in the air on the surface of the carbon. In other words, the odor molecules flowing through it remain attached to the activated carbon surface. This allows odor-free air to come out of the Mini Activated Carbon Filter Grow. Since pollutants are usually positively charged and activated carbon is negatively charged, pollutants are also attracted and bound by the carbon.

What are the advantages of our activated carbon?

Our activated carbon stands out from the activated carbon of other suppliers due to various properties. The activated carbon of our Growbox activated carbon filter can be used permanently and around the clock for about 6 months. You can therefore save yourself monthly carbon changes! Furthermore, our activated carbon has the advantage that it works even at high humidity in the growbox and neutralizes the air. Especially after watering your plant this is useful. Since our activated carbon is more powerful than other types of carbon, a smaller amount of carbon and a small activated carbon filter can be used. Due to the powerful charcoal, the neutralization of the air can still be guaranteed. In addition, because of the powerful carbon, we can offer a smaller but less expensive amount of activated carbon. Our replacement bag for the activated carbon filter Growbox consists of approximately 1320 pellets. In addition, our activated carbon is manufactured in a factory in Europe. We are very proud of that.

Can activated carbon accelerate the grow?

The answer is no. Activated charcoal can neither speed up your grow nor affect the quality of your harvest. However, as mentioned in the previous sections, charcoal makes indoor growing much more discreet and can additionally filter pollutants and mold particles from the air.

How often must the activated carbon be changed?

We recommend to renew the Growbox activated carbon filter around every 6-9 months. The carbon bag is simply inserted into the housing of the ventilation system – which is only plugged – and ready! The use of tools or even a professional is not necessary here.

How to mount the activated carbon filter in the grow box?

The assembly and replacement of the activated carbon filter is super easy. The mini activated carbon filter Grow is mounted with a screw cap inside the grow box. You have to tighten the screw until it stops. If you want to use the replacement bag, simply unscrew the charcoal filter from the growbox, put the new charcoal in the filter and screw or insert the charcoal filter back into the growbox.
