What seeds are suitable for beginners?
If you are a beginner grower, it’s best to choose a strain known for its resilience to growing mistakes and ease of care. As a beginner, it’s advisable to select strains that predominantly exhibit Indica characteristics. These strains flower in a shorter time, have a compact growth structure, and still yield impressive results. Beginner-friendly strains include Northern Lights, Critical Mass, and Autoflowering seeds.
What are the growth stages of indoor grow?
Understanding the Growth Phases of Indoor Plants
During indoor cultivation, your plant goes through various growth phases. The first phase is germination, where seeds are placed in a moist medium to encourage sprouting. This process typically takes a few days to a week. During this time, the seed develops roots and forms seedling leaves.
After germination, the seedling phase begins, lasting about 2 to 3 weeks. In this stage, the young plant develops its root system and starts producing leaves. Next comes the vegetative phase, where the plant prepares for flowering. During this phase, the plant grows rapidly, develops more leaves, and strengthens its root system. It requires plenty of light (around 18 hours per day) and nutrients to promote growth.
Once the plant has grown sufficiently, it enters the flowering phase. This is usually initiated by changing the light cycle to provide 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. During the flowering phase, the plant develops buds and resin.
At the end of the flowering phase, the plant is ready for harvest. This is typically determined by the color of the trichomes and the overall structure of the buds. After harvesting, the buds need to be dried and cured before consumption. It’s crucial to monitor the plant’s needs regarding light, water, and nutrients carefully during each phase to ensure a successful harvest.
How to dry the crop?
After harvesting your hemp, the crucial drying process follows to preserve the quality of the buds. Hang the buds or the entire plant, depending on your preference, in a well-ventilated room to dry. You can use the Bonsanto drying box to assist with the drying process. Ensure there is enough space between the buds to prevent mold growth. The drying time varies based on moisture content and typically lasts between 9 to 14 days.
Use the stem bend test to check if the buds are dry. If the stem bends without breaking, let the buds dry for a few more days. If the branch snaps, the buds are sufficiently dried. You can also cure your harvest to further enhance its flavor and quality. Read our article “Proper Curing – Coffeeshop Quality” for more information.
How to store the harvest?
Proper storage of your harvest is essential for preserving quality and aroma. Use airtight glass containers, such as the Bonsanto Miron storage jar made of violet glass. Store your buds in a cool, dark place with humidity levels between 55-62%. Avoid direct light and strong odors. Keeping different strains stored separately also helps prevent the loss of aroma.
